On arriving in Glasgow one of the first things that we did on our Scottish Adventure was to take a ride on the Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour. This was a lovely way to catch our breath and take in a general idea of all the major sights to see within the city.
Big red double decker buses were found throughout the streets with friendly guides to offer you interesting and informative facts about the city of Glasgow, it’s people and it’s history.
Below is a photograph I snapped after first boarding the Hop On Hop Off tour bus. What was so interesting to me, coming from the “New World” – aka the Alberta Prairies, was the eclectic blend of old and new. In the foreground is intricate architecture consisting of sandstone dirty from the times of industrialization while the building in the background tries to keep pace with progress, complete with a Burger King fast food restaurant.
Here is a photograph of the skyline, the blend of old and new complete with the lush greenery that this beautiful country consists of.
I highly recommend these bus tours as a method for new comers to get to know a new city. I knew I would love Scotland before I even arrived but once there I had a whole new appreciation.
